Every now and then a creative collaboration produces a frame that immediately stops you in your tracks. This session with model and creative collaborator Mindy (@mindynutran) was one of those moments. From the beginning, we weren't interested in creating traditional fashion images. The goal was to create something graphic, bold, and cinematic—something that balanced beauty with strength. The foundation of the concept began with a single color: red.Red has always carried powerful symbolism. It can represent passion, confidence, love, danger, power, rebellion, and courage—all at the same time. It's a color that demands attention without ever asking for permission.
Mindy arrived with a striking monochromatic wardrobe centered around vibrant shades of red. The look immediately felt powerful. Rather than compete with it, I wanted to build around it.Together we introduced the sword as a visual element. The sword transformed the images from fashion portraits into something more narrative. It became a symbol rather than a prop. Strength without aggression. Confidence without arrogance. Presence without explanation. What I enjoyed most about this collaboration was Mindy's willingness to explore ideas in real time.
Some of my favorite creative sessions happen when there is trust between photographer and subject. Rather than forcing poses, we worked through movements, shapes, and expressions together, allowing the images to evolve naturally. The result is a collection of portraits that feel somewhere between fashion editorial, cinematic storytelling, and contemporary portraiture.
Throughout the session I found myself drawn to the contrast between softness and strength. The flowing hair. The elegant silhouette. The delicate details of the jewelry. Set against the sharp lines of steel and the commanding presence of the sword. That tension became the visual language of the series. What makes these images successful isn't the wardrobe or the prop alone. t's the collaboration. Creative work is always strongest when everyone involved contributes something meaningful to the final frame. Mindy brought the wardrobe, energy, and vision. I contributed lighting, composition, props, and direction.
Together we created something neither of us would have made alone. That's the part of photography I love most. Not simply taking pictures. Creating images.
